Tuesday Tunes 4/19

Family Guy had a Street Fighter inspired scene last week which was hilarious, great timing with the recent launch of the Nintendo 3DS and Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition… that Jameson Whiskey commercial with the huge octopus is great every time its on… Whatever happened to O-Town… ABDC is back on, surprised this show is still running, considering how incredible the Jabbawockeez were and how average the crews this season look; Omarion is no longer a judge… John just rewatched the recent Karate Kid remake, as good as it is, not close to the original and the Kobra Kai… Marilyn Manson in talks to join Lindsay Lohan about Charles Manson… Kollaboration Boston took place this past weekend, a good friend of John’s, Vudoo Soul, was at the event…

  • Street Fighter 2 – Guile Stage
  • Like anyboy born in the 80’s, John played Street Fighter 2. He never played it in the arcade, but whipped out the $80 retail price to buy it for the SNES and spend countless hours going up against his brother. His character was Blanka, but clearly the best song in Street fighter history is the music on Guile’s stage.

  • Mozart – 3. Violin Concerto No. 3 Strassburg K. 215; 3rd Movement
  • This is such a great gem of a piece that John stumbled upon like probably many other people during the wonderful Jameson Whiskey commercial. The commercial is absolutely great, and the piece in the background lingered in John’s head that he absolutely had to find out more about the piece. It actually turns out that the same piece was in Master and Commander with Russell Crowe, which he and a lot of people never watched…

Killer Instinct 2; SNES nostalgia… Simon Cowell tells X Factor contestants NOT to sing Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours… some Japanese <3 for the rapper WISE and Kana Nishino; please donate to Japan relief… Bombarded by Franklin & Bash commercials on TNT starring Mark Paul Gosselaar; Saved by the Bell and the Five Aces were quite classic… Speed seems to always be on AMC nowadays, and a Bill & Ted’s Thrillogy is in talks!… One of the best Nike commercials, Second Coming, with a killer Juelz Santana beat… One of John’s all time fav trance songs from Andre Visior… Classic Backstreet Boys; the best boy band… and some love for Edward Maya’s ingenious integration of an accordion into an addicting song…

  • Killer Instinct 2 – Sabrewulf Theme
  • The funny thing is John never really played the Killer Instinct series much, but when he came across this stage music for Sabrewulf, he got hooked to this tune.

  • Jason Mraz – I’m Yours
  • 潘瑋柏 – 不得不愛
  • John got on the Jason Mraz train late, this was obviously the song that got him on it. Such a nice and peaceful song. Love this little kid’s rendition.

Tuesday Tunes 4/5

Britney appears to making another comeback…  Classic Geico Caveman commercial with the sick red motorcycle outfit, what were they ever thinking when they tried to do a sitcom…  Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s World Championship 2011 just out on the DS; that intro song to the original cartoon series is quite epic… Jean-Claude Van Damme in the Kung Fu Panda sequel; Lionheart was overlooked and the soundtrack was real nice…  Wrestlemania XXVII was this past weekend; Triple H vs the Undertaker was epic, but that DX theme song is a classic…

  • Taio Cruz – Dynamite
  • One of the more recent songs John has enjoyed.  He doesn’t listen to much music on the radio nowadays, but it’s hard not to move to this song.

    • Genre: R&B
    • Year: 2010

  • Wilber Pan – Cannot Not Love (Bu De Bu Ai)
  • 潘瑋柏 – 不得不愛
  • Very nice tune, really enjoyable and soothing to listen to.

Tuesday Tunes 3/29

John Lee has been known to quite the diverse array of music.  And considering the fact he listens to podcasts 95% of the time as opposed to modern music on the radio, he has to sift through his thousands of MP3s to keep him happy.  When people typically ask what kind of music he likes, the cliche answer is “everything”.  While he doesn’t regularly listen to everything all the time, he’s not one to say, ” I like rap, but hate country” or “Love alternative, can’t stand techno/trance.”  While he doesn’t have quite as diverse or expansive of a collection as his good friend, DJ NgaiNgai, sharing is caring. This will likely be a weekly Tuesday share going forward, enjoy.

  • H.O.T. – Outside Castle (The Castle Outsiders)
  • One of the first K-Pop songs John ever listened to.  As good as the entire song, the opening instrumental provides this enjoyable yet sharp contrast to the chorus and rest of song.

    • Genre: K-Pop
    • Year: 2000

  •

  • Warren G Ft. Nate Dogg – Regulate
  • Absolute classic.  One of the first few hip hop songs John knew all the lyrics to.  The funny thing is, while this song is part of the Above the Rim soundtrack, and John does enjoy that movie; there never seems to be a connection between the two for him.
