NIT or Womens NCAA… Which would you watch?

This past Tuesday night, John was flipping through the channels when he got home from work around 7. Like any male in his late 20s, he jolted to ESPN first to see what was on during the off days of the NCAA Tournament. ESPN and ESPN2 were right next to each other on the channel guide, and he had two options…

 

• ESPN         Women’s NCAA – (2) Duke vs. (1) Connecticut
• ESPN2       NIT Tournament – (4) Wichita State vs. (2) Washington State

 

This was quite the difficult choice.  Both options had good and bad qualities to them.  ESPN was basically saying that the Womens NCAA game was better and/or served a larger audience.  But without sounding like a 1950s misogynistic caveman, but womens basketball is womens basketball.  Here are some pros and cons from watching a couple of minutes:

NCAA March Madness 2011

So this year, John’s March Madness activities are quite extensive compared to previous years, yet he’ll admit he’s been following NCAA basketball the least amount compared to previous years.  He knows that the last team to repeat was Florida, and the Dukies don’t have the best track record in the big dance, but… John Lee is selecting the Duke Blue Devils to win it again this year.  The few things he does know are:

 

• Kemba Walker on UCONN is clutch.
• Duke was undefeated behind their freshman superstar PG, Kyrie Irving.
• Everyone is on the Ohio State bandwagon.
• John has a huge man-crush on Jimmer Fredette, but seriously hopes he doesn’t end up like Adam Morrison in the pros…
